Evolution and Persistence: Traces

It is a ruined eave pillar from a traditional Chinese gate, originating from the house where I lived. Through a process of reconstruction in clay, I seek to reconnect with the lost architecture embodied in the ruin, while leaving room for a romantic imagination. The absence of the original subject symbolizes a search for its history as well as the discontinuity of memory. In a certain sense, it is picturesque; it takes the form of a monument.
