Evolution and Persistence: Demolition
2019
Gray facing bricks, wood
98 × 360 × 100 cm
The demolition of Beijing’s old neighborhoods accompanied my childhood; traces of my own life disappeared along with the collapse of the buildings. I collected abandoned gray bricks from the ruins. Through a process of reconstruction, I sought to highlight the paradoxical tension between demolition and construction, while proposing, through memory, a personal reinterpretation of historical events and reflecting on individual identity within the context of industrialization and urbanization.
