The installation occupies the former pigsty of a farm dating back to the medieval period. It consists of old wooden doors that had been dismantled and preserved before being reinstalled in their original location. Combining painting, video and light, the installation reconstructs an ambiguous interior space, somewhere between an enclosure, a temporary structure and a hut. Visitors encounter an obstacle that they must physically walk around.
These doors reactivate the memory of their original function as interfaces of passage, separation and control between humans and animals. Some of the gaps in the doors, caused by the animals that had been confined and penned inside, were patched up by humans, bearing witness to a relentless effort to repair and maintain.
A film projected onto the reverse side of the installation depicts everyday life on the farm today. The painting occupies the gaps and damaged sections, opening up a space for the imagination. Light passing through the cracks between the old doors is projected onto the wall, revealing a truncated facet of reality.
Through the recomposition of image, material and space, the installation invites reflection on traces, disappearance and memory.
